Exercise 1: Subject-Verb Agreement
Identify the correct verb form to complete each sentence.
1. Neither the teacher nor the students [is/are] happy about the test results.
2. Ten dollars [is/are] a high price to pay for such a small item.
3. The team, as well as their coach, [is/are] disappointed with the outcome.
4. Every morning, a flock of birds [fly/flies] across the sky.
5. Neither the cat nor the dogs [is/are] allowed on the furniture.
Exercise 2: Conditional Sentences
Complete the sentences with the correct conditional form.
1. If it rains tomorrow, we [will cancel/cancelled] our picnic.
2. I would have joined the club [if/unless] I had known about it earlier.
3. Unless you [finish/finished] your homework, you won't be able to go out.
4. If she [followed/had followed] the recipe correctly, the cake would have turned out better.
5. Had they studied harder, they [would pass/would have passed] the exam.
Exercise 3: Relative Pronouns
Choose the appropriate relative pronoun (who, whom, whose, which, that) to complete the sentences.
1. The person [whom/who] I met yesterday is a famous author.
2. The house, [whose/which] roof is leaking, needs urgent repairs.
3. This is the girl [that/who] won the science competition.
4. The car [that/which] we rented for the road trip was very comfortable.
5. The man [whose/whom] wallet was stolen reported the incident to the police.
Exercise 4: Reported Speech
Rewrite the direct speech sentences as reported speech.
1. She said, "I will finish the project by tomorrow."
- She said that [she will/she would] finish the project by tomorrow.
2. "Don't forget to buy some milk," he told her.
- He told her [not to forget/to not forget] to buy some milk.
3. "I have never been to Paris," she exclaimed.
- She exclaimed that [she has/she had] never been to Paris.
4. "Why did you miss the meeting?" he asked.
- He asked why [did you miss/you missed] the meeting.
5. "I am studying for the final exams," they explained.
- They explained that [they are/they were] studying for the final exams.
Exercise 5: Modal Verbs
Use the correct modal verb to complete the sentences.
1. You [must/should] be careful while crossing the street.
2. He [must/should] finish the assignment by tomorrow.
3. We [may/must] visit our grandparents next weekend.
4. They [must/might] have left their keys at home.
5. I [used to/should] play the piano when I was younger.
